Hey, I’m Nic

I live in Cape Town, and run an online flower delivery business with my wife, Jules.

Before my career pivoted into the world of entrepreneurship and flowers, I worked as an intellectual property lawyer for a firm in Johannesburg.

I am an enthusiast of sports, music, literature, wine and entrepreneurship, and this publication is a place for me to explore these passions in a meaningful way.

Writing gives me a sense of connection that is different from my real world engagements. It’s something I love to do, and a skill I wish to continuously develop over my lifetime.

I recently became a father to Thomas, the loveliest little boy. So I plan to also document my journey into fatherhood.

Here are a few of my favourite essays I’ve shared:

Pure Gold - On Rob Louw, Errol Tobias and Chasing the Sun 2.

Postcards from Madikwe - On indications of health.

What Ted Lasso Can Teach Us About Dining Out - The title says it all.

Punk Rock Rugby - On rolling mauls and Rassie Erasmus.

My Amateurish Ideals - What I hope to achieve with my writing.

The Sage Advice of Emily Oster - On parenting and how the right advice at the right time can change your life.

A True Champion - A story which attempts to capture my enthusiasm for watching my favourite Springbok rugby player, Damian Willemse.

If you enjoy my writing, please feel free to like, comment, or share. Or please reach out to my directly — I’d love to hear from you!
